Other major communities in Rutherford County are, Smyrna, La Vergne, and Eagleville. Smyrna is, according to a recent article in U.S. News & World Report, among the “Top 10 Best Places to Retire.” The town is home to Nissan's first U.S. automotive manufacturing plant, which recently celebrated its 25th year in production. It is also home to the Sam Davis Home, a historic landmark named after a 21 year old who was killed for not giving up information that could compromise the Confederates.
La Vergne is the northernmost city in Rutherford County with roughly 30 thousand people. It will get its first major retail development by 2009, The Shoppes of La Vergne, a $20 million development. Eagleville is the smallest incorporated municipality in the county. It hosts the oldest horse show in Tennessee in June. It also hosts an antique tractor show in September every year.
