Sumner County is north and east of Nashville area real estate
proper, with a population of about 150 thousand. Hendersonville was settled in 1784 and in 1790, William Henderson settled in and became the city's first postmaster. When Old Hickory Dam was finished in 1954, the city began to grow into the most populous city of Sumner County. The beautiful lake offers not only lake front home sites, but other wonderful water sport activities. It is no wonder that some of the most famous country music stars call Hendersonville home. Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty put Hendersonville on the map years ago, but now teen sensation, Taylor Swift calls Hendersonville home along with other luminaries like The Oak Ridge Boys, Marty Stuart and Ricky Skaggs.
Sumner County is home to Sumner Crest Winery in Portland, and Long Hollow Winery in Goodlettsville. The famous Trinity Music City USA is in Hendersonville as well.
Gallatin is about 25 miles northeast of Nashville and is a thriving community. It is home to Volunteer State Community College. The city's town square is its cornerstone. It features a central courthouse and 19th century buildings. Old Hickory Lake and Bledsoe State Park are popular attractions. It has a population of more than 30,000 and is the county seat of Sumner County.
Goodletsville straddles Davidson and Sumner Counties and operates a separate governmental entity than that of the Metropolitan Nashville Government. It has a Mayor, Vice-Mayor and a City Commission. Goodletsville is home to Dollar General Corporation corporate headquarters and Rivergate Mall shopping center.
